Detailed Overview of Chapter Wise Class 12 Physics NCERT Solutions

This detailed overview of chapter wise Class 12 Physics NCERT Solutions helps you understand all topics in an easy way with the updated CBSE syllabus.

Chapter 1: Electric Charges and Fields

In this chapter, you will learn about electric charges, electric fields, and how they work. You will understand how to calculate the force between two charges kept at a distance and why charges appear when materials like a glass rod and silk cloth are rubbed together.

The chapter also explains how to find the dipole moment and the total charge of a system in an electric field. Also include important topics such as Coulomb’s law, forces between multiple charges, conservation of charge, and Gauss’s theorem with its applications.

Chapter 2: Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance

In this chapter, you will learn about electric potential and potential difference. It explains concepts like electric potential, equipotential surfaces, dipoles, systems of charges, dielectrics, and electric polarisation.

You will also learn about capacitors, capacitance, energy stored in a capacitor, and how capacitors are connected in series and parallel. The chapter also introduces the basics of potentiometers and metre bridges. At the end, you will find numerical problems and questions based on these concepts for practice.

Chapter 3: Current Electricity

This chapter introduces important terms such as resistance, electric current, drift velocity, internal resistance, conductance, Ohm’s law, EMF of a cell, and resistivity. You will also learn how resistivity changes in metals, alloys, and semiconductors.

The chapter explains how to simplify complex circuits into series and parallel forms and introduces Kirchhoff’s laws with simple applications. It also covers key instruments like the potentiometer, Wheatstone bridge, and metre bridge.

At the end of the chapter, several numerical problems and practice questions are provided based on these concepts.

Chapter 4: Moving Charges and Magnetism

In this chapter, students will learn through diagrams, examples, graphs, and everyday-life illustrations, which make the concepts easier to remember. The chapter explains the magnetic field, Oersted’s experiment, Ampere’s law and its applications, and the Biot–Savart law.

You will also understand the definition of an ampere, the working of a moving-coil galvanometer, its current sensitivity, and how a galvanometer is converted into an ammeter or voltmeter. At the end of the chapter, several practice questions and numerical problems are provided based on these topics.

Chapter 5: Magnetism And Matter

In Chapter 5, students will learn about magnetic field lines, Earth’s magnetism, and how a compass works. The chapter covers topics like the current loop as a magnetic dipole, magnetic dipole moment, a bar magnet as an equivalent solenoid, Earth’s magnetic field and its magnetic elements, the magnetic dipole moment of a revolving electron, and magnetic field lines.

Chapter 6: Electromagnetic Induction

In Chapter 6, students learn how magnetism and electricity are connected. The chapter covers important concepts like electromagnetic induction, Faraday’s laws, Lenz’s law, eddy currents, induced EMF and current, and self and mutual induction.

It also explains peak and RMS values of AC voltage and current. While solving questions, students should remember the magnetic field and the direction of the induced EMF.

Chapter 7: Alternating Current

This chapter is shorter than the others and explains the basics of AC voltage and AC circuits. Students will learn about alternating currents, power in AC circuits, power factor, resonance, reactance, impedance, and LCR series circuits. The chapter also covers inductors, transformers, AC generators, and LC oscillations (in a simple, qualitative way).

Chapter 8: Electromagnetic Waves

Electromagnetic waves are connected to magnetism, so your earlier knowledge will help you understand this chapter easily.

In this chapter, students will learn about electromagnetism, capacitors, potential difference, and displacement current. It also covers important concepts like Kirchhoff’s rules, the RMS value of conduction current, and the similarities between conduction current and displacement current.

Chapter 9: Ray Optics and Optical Instruments

This chapter explains the concepts of reflection, refraction, and the dispersion of light using ray diagrams. It clearly describes how images are formed based on the laws of reflection and refraction. The chapter also covers the structure and working of several optical instruments, including the human eye.

Chapter 10: Wave Optics

In Chapter 10, the most important concept is Huygen’s laws of reflection and refraction, which carries the highest weightage.

The chapter also covers Brewster’s Law, the Doppler Effect, angular width, Young’s double-slit experiment, fringe width, diffraction through a single slit, coherent sources, sustained interference of light, and the basics of interference and polarization.

Chapter 11: Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter

In this chapter, you will learn whether radiation behaves like a particle, a wave, or both. It also explains concepts such as the photoelectric effect, wave theory, and the wave nature of light.

Important topics include Einstein’s photoelectric equation, electron emission, the dual nature of radiation, the De-Broglie relation, observations by Hertz and Lenard, the Davisson–Germer experiment, matter waves, and the experimental evidence for the wave nature of particles.

Chapter 12: Atoms

In Chapter 12, the Bohr Model of the Hydrogen Atom is one of the key concepts. This chapter also covers Rutherford’s atomic model, the alpha-particle scattering experiment, atomic spectra, the line spectrum of hydrogen, and De Broglie’s explanation of Bohr’s second postulate of quantisation.

Chapter 13: Nuclei

Chapter 13 explains important concepts related to the nucleus, such as its composition, size, and atomic masses. It also covers nuclear force, mass–energy, nuclear binding energy, radioactivity, nuclear fission, and the working of a nuclear reactor.

Chapter 14: Semiconductor Electronic: Material, Devices and Simple Circuits

This is one of the highest-scoring chapters in Class 12 Physics. Most questions focus on semiconductor diodes, especially n-type semiconductors, dopants, and charge carriers. Students should also know the output frequency of half-wave and full-wave rectifiers.

The chapter covers metals, conductors, semiconductors, intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors, and special p-n junction diodes like the Zener diode, photodiode, LED, solar cell, and basic logic gates.
